Lalitpur Metropolitan City is a religious, cultural and historical city. After the promulgation of the present constitution, Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Nepal's first and oldest municipality, has 29 wards.

Introduction of Lalitpur Metropolitan City Ward No. 1

Out of the 29 wards of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Ward No. 1 is of a special nature. Located on the banks of the Bagmati River, which carries the importance of human civilization, this ward has distinct religious, cultural and social significance.

During the restructuring of the state, Lalitpur Metropolitan City was reorganized into 29 separate wards. Some parts of former Ward No. 1 were merged into other wards, and some parts of Ward No. 2 were also split from Ward No. 1.

At present, there is a mixture of new and old settlements in this ward. Other communities have also been living here, alongside the historically significant Newa culture.

Geographical Location of Ward No. 1

• Area: The total area of Lalitpur Metropolitan City is 36.12 sq km. Ward No. 1 occupies 0.48 sq km, which is approximately 1.33 percent of the total area of the metropolis.
